We met in April 2008, when I was training to be a professional dancer and working in a bakery to pay for school. Romain came to get some bread that wasn't for him (his ex-girlfriend's mother had sent him there...). He came back every day, without saying a word to me. Then, as fate would have it, he mentioned me to his soccer team and realized we had a mutual acquaintance. That's when he contacted me. We met and haven't let go since April 3, 2008.
We've since had 2 beautiful boys: Eden, who arrived in 2013, and Jules in 2020.
The request was made on 26/12/2022, my birthday. We had gone skiing the day after Christmas for 1 week. But he did things in a big way.
The 4 of us were expected at a magnificent restaurant, and Eden was proud to be part of the party!
We were set up in a corner next to the Christmas tree, and when it was time for the aperitif, the waiter brought me a transparent bell (like the one in La Belle et La Bête!!) and there it was.
There was no need for words, he put it on my finger and I had butterflies in my stomach for the whole meal...
What impressed them:
The highlight of this magnificent day was our 2 children with us. So our secular ceremony was very personal. Romain's best man was our ceremonialist, and the speeches by our loved ones were authentic and full of vivid memories. The handkerchiefs were not too much... It was rich in emotion and exactly what I had imagined.
We got married abroad, particularly in Portugal, where I'm originally from. Although I only have my grandmother there, it was important for us to unite in this country that Romain has adopted. For the record, he's originally from Lille, but when he arrived in the Paris region, all his friends were Portuguese (friends who are now part of our family).
Over there, weddings are often held in what's known as a "quinta", a sort of large outdoor space, where all the service providers are located. Our ceremony took place outside, and the evening was held inside the farmhouse. We have very little family, so our family is the one we built (the 4 of us) and our F'amis. It was a very festive atmosphere, and everyone got along very well. For us, it was a success!
I have to admit that when it comes to inspirations, we look everywhere! I had a color theme that wasn't very original (terracotta) but I really like this warm color, which totally matched the place and our world. So we go on Pinterest, look at images on the internet and try to customize as much as we can.
As for Romain, he wanted to wear blue, and the boys, of course, like Dad. I just wanted them to have the same detail (the boutonniere in dried terracotta flowers and the personalized wooden bow tie on Etsy). In fact, we had the same made for the groomsmen.
I went to 2 different stores, the 1st one I won't mention by name, although the reviews were good... but the welcome was deplorable, the space far too small, no photos possible... She didn't put me at ease and only showed me what I asked her to show me. Anyone could have done it.
For my 2nd fitting, I went to this boutique called "Toiemoi". And there I knew, without yet having seen the dresses, that this was where I'd find the right one.
Gwendoline started asking me lots of questions to get to know my temperament, personality and so on. She had me try on several dresses based on what I'd shown her, within my budget. Each one as gorgeous as the next, it was going to be difficult to choose.
That's when she brought back a dress that I wasn't allowed to see before going out dressed, and my bridesmaids who were accompanying me were downright skeptical when they saw it arrive. But the reaction wasn't what I'd imagined. For the 1st time, I heard the "Whouaaaaaaaaaouuuu" and even saw tears running down one of them. That's when I knew it was the one.
I'm not used to wearing heels at all, I'm more of a sneaker girl. But for this special day, I wanted a nice pair of shoes that I could wear again if the mood took me. I wanted a comfortable heel that I wouldn't have to take off after 2 hours.
That's what I like best about DMUS: being able to customize everything!
I knew I wanted a wide heel for comfort and stability, an open toe for style, and a heel between 6 and 8 cm to hold without twisting my ankle. And then all these colors !!!!! I wanted gold, I knew that, but so many choices. It was during the video call that I got a lot of advice on size and material. The trial pair also confirmed my choice.
I wanted our guests to have wonderful memories of the day. So for the secular ceremony, I personalized wooden fans and sunglasses, little handkerchiefs for tears of joy, flip-flops for tired feet at the end of the day, postcards as guest books...
For some, they're in Portugal, but you never know if your brides-to-be get married there 😉
