The meeting

Encounter and demand :

He's an anaesthetist and I'm a paediatrician, and we met in the delivery room during our internship in Tourraine... He was already in a relationship, but it was obvious to us that we needed to be with each other all the time, and the simplicity of this alchemy was just magical!

He proposed to me 3 years later in a magnificent hotel in the heights of Santa Teresa in Rio De Janeiro... quoting an extract as usual! He'd bought a temporary ring so as not to risk having the real thing stolen, and it was just like him: rock'n roll and original!

Most vivid memory:

I could tell you about the look on my dad's face when he saw me arrive at the town hall, or the emotion when I read the vows I'd written for the man who was to become my husband, or all the speeches, dances and songs from our witnesses! They really spoiled us! In fact, what impressed us most was seeing all our guests and close friends enjoying themselves and telling us that everything was just like us: colorful, warm, generous and relaxed... In the end, everyone felt good, so for us it was a success because we'd managed to convey what we wanted!

Location:

We got married in a superb stone building with exposed beams, part of a château on the outskirts of Bordeaux. Surrounded by vines and greenery, everything was bohemian and romantic... We set up a corner under the trees for our outdoor secular ceremony, with little white chairs and colorful bouquets hanging from the chairs. We used a large wooden barrel as a lectern for our officiants, with a magnificent floral arrangement on top, complete with electric garlands and pennants!

Everywhere else, on the estate or in the reception hall, there was a warm, bohemian atmosphere. We made our own decorations using wood, moss and wine corks... and a rock'n'rool touch with a tattoo bar, rock bands as table names and an entrance to the hall of hell with our witnesses on "satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones with leather jackets, sunglasses and plastic guitar!

Wedding inspirations:

I read a lot of blogs: "the angry bride", "the barefoot bride" and searched on pinterest!

For the decoration, I bought on Hema, on Savethedeco, and also on Amazon, a gold mine! I had personalized items made on Etsy, like the totes bag for my witnesses and the guest book!

Dress:

For my dress, I'd known for a long time that I wanted a rather bohemian dress with lace. So I went for a few fittings in a boutique to find out what suited me and what I liked, and then designed it at a talented dressmaker in Tours (Céline Haudebourg). You can go there with your eyes closed, and contrary to what you might think, a made-to-measure dress is no more expensive than one bought in a boutique. Obviously, I needed a touch of color and rock in my outfit... Dessine-moi un soulier pumps were an obvious choice!

Shoe design:

I created several models on the website and ordered leather samples to see for myself: a smooth leather, a velvet leather and a glitter leather... All I had to do now was choose the color! So I looked a lot at the photos to see how the colors really looked, and e-mailed the designers to find out which color looked lighter or darker.

For the heel height, I was hesitating between 2 but I was lucky enough to have 2 friends who ordered their wedding shoes on the site, so I was able to try and realize that the 8cm heels were perfectly comfortable if you're a bit used to heels! And they were perfect for the big day!

I don't live in Paris and couldn't get there in time, much to my regret!

Bride's advice:

My advice is to stay true to your ideas: listen to the advice but it's YOUR wedding, you and your husband choose in the end! 🙂

  • Organization is key. Here are a few tips: I've written down my ideas, made cards (contact details for suppliers, witnesses, back-planning for the last 6 months and back-planning for the big day...), made charts to help me choose suppliers...
  • So is delegation! It's important, but not easy. As someone who's used to controlling everything... I've realized that you have to use everyone's skills: the table decorations, the outside accessories, the services, the distribution of bubbles/petals for the town hall exit... You have to think of everything to have an unforgettable moment!
